A recap of...
Heavy Rain
The day after celebrating his son Jason's tenth birthday, Ethan Mars (Pascal Langdale) takes his family out shopping. Tragedy strikes when Jason and Ethan are struck by a car; Jason loses his life, and Ethan falls into a coma for six months. Upon awakening, Ethan is consumed by guilt over Jason's death. This guilt leads to the breakdown of his marriage to Grace, and he moves into a modest suburban duplex while grappling with mental trauma and recurring blackouts.
Two years later, while spending time with his other son, Shaun, at the park, Ethan experiences another blackout. When he regains consciousness, Shaun is missing and later confirmed to have been abducted by the "Origami Killer." This serial killer has a chilling pattern: kidnapping young boys during autumn, drowning them in rainwater, and leaving behind an orchid and a folded origami figure near their bodies. Meanwhile, Norman Jayden (Leon Ockenden), an FBI profiler battling an addiction to the drug Triptocaine, investigates the murder of another victim of the Origami Killer. He determines that the child died the same day as a heavy rainstorm, which flooded the chamber where he was held. Jayden estimates Shaun has only three days to live based on current weather conditions.
Under pressure from the media, Ethan checks into a motel and receives a letter from the killer. The letter directs him to a shoebox containing a mobile phone, a gun, and five origami figures. Through a phone call, the killer explains that each figure contains a challenge designed to test the lengths Ethan will go to save his son. Success in each task grants him a piece of the address where Shaun is being held. Ethan's trials include driving into oncoming traffic at high speed, crawling through shattered glass and electrified wires, severing one of his own fingers, murdering a drug dealer named Brad Silver, and drinking poison while being recorded. During his stay at the motel, Ethan meets Madison Paige (Jacqui Ainsley/Judi Beecher),[N 1] a journalist battling insomnia who often uses motels to find rest. She decides to launch her own investigation into the Origami Killer.
While Ethan faces his harrowing trials, Norman Jayden and his partner, Lieutenant Carter Blake, investigate suspects but fail to uncover any concrete leads. The case takes a turn when Grace, Ethan's estranged wife, contacts the police, worried that Ethan might be involved in Shaun's disappearance. After learning from Ethan's psychiatrist, Clarence Dupré, about his history of blackouts, Blake pushes for Ethan's arrest. Jayden, unconvinced of Ethan's guilt, continues to explore alternative leads.
At the same time, private investigator Scott Shelby (Sam Douglas) interviews the families of the Origami Killer's victims, collecting the letters and items they received when their children were taken. Lauren Winter, a prostitute and grieving mother of one of the victims, convinces Scott to let her assist in his investigation. Their efforts eventually lead them to Gordi Kramer, who claims to be the Origami Killer. However, when they attempt to question him, they are ambushed, knocked unconscious, and left to drown in a sinking car. Depending on the circumstances, Scott may or may not manage to save Lauren. Later, Scott confronts Gordi's father, Charles Kramer, and coerces a confession, learning that Gordi was responsible for a past incident in which another boy died.
